Fishing lines for black bass

Monofilament, fluorocarbon and braid behave differently. Monofilament offers stretch and easy handling; fluorocarbon provides density and abrasion resistance useful for certain leaders or techniques; braid has little stretch and high strength for its diameter. None is the right choice for every situation.

Compare actual diameter, breaking strain, abrasion resistance and spool length. Dense cover may call for strength and direct contact; some stretch helps cushion lures fitted with treble hooks. When braid is joined to a leader, check the connection knot and its passage through the guides. Inspect the first metres after rubbing against rock, timber or hard vegetation.
